The Goods and Services Tax (GST) in India was implemented on July 1, 2017, replacing multiple indirect taxes. The standard GST rate is 18%, with other rates at 5%, 12%, and 28% depending on the goods and services.
GST is a comprehensive indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. It has simplified the tax structure by subsuming various central and state taxes under a single umbrella, making it easier for businesses to comply with tax regulations.
About Our India GST Calculator
Our GST Calculator makes it easy to calculate Goods & Services Tax according to Indian GST slabs: 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. Whether you're a business owner, accountant or consumer, this tool helps you quickly work out the tax on any goods or services. The GST system was introduced on 1st July 2017 to replace India's complex web of indirect taxes with a single, unified structure. The main aim of GST was to eliminate 'double-taxation' and streamline tax compliance. The government established four GST slabs based on product and service categories, with the India Central Government passing four enabling bills on 29th March 2017.
How to Calculate GST in India
Here's an example showing how GST compares to the old VAT system. This calculation includes both SGST and CGST components.
Example: For a product with a production cost of ₹50,000, the old system with 12.5% VAT and 2% CST would result in a final cost of ₹1,06,127. Under GST with 12% IGST (SGST + CGST combined), the final cost is ₹93,498 — a significant reduction.
